Howdy Neighbor!

We say “neighbor” because you might be an Adams Morgan resident and live around the corner from where our offices are on Adams Mill Road. You might be a fan of Adams Morgan or a visitor that frequents our commercial corridor.

Adams Morgan Main Street Group is a locally based, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization. Our organization has been working for several years with business owners, volunteers and residents like your self who want to make Adams Morgan a better place to live, work, and visit.  This support for renewal can be attributed to a wide spectrum of diverse small business owners and residents who believe in improving and retaining a vibrant neighborhood.

Adams Morgan is one of the most widely recognized interesting, vibrant and unique neighborhoods in the DC area.  Our group, Adams Morgan Main Street works to support small and large projects, economic revitalization and small business through the National Historic Trust’s Four Points. The Main Street “four-point approach” of design, organization, promotions and economic diversification has guided our completed and ongoing projects but most importantly the Adams Morgan Main Street projects help people protect, enhance and enjoy the neighborhood and work on the areas they deem important.

Some of our successful neighborhood projects which we hope residents and fans of Adams Morgan might have enjoyed and continue to use are:

· A Bike Rack Study which then resulted in the 35 new racks

· Adoption and landscaping the 7-11 pocket park (The rose arbor & benches get rave reviews)

· Extensive new street tree planting (32 new trees on 18th St & Columbia Rd)

· Bringing Bravo Top Chef to Adams Morgan for cooking demos & tastings

· Planting trios of cherry trees in Adams Morgan parks and schools

· Wine tasting and food sampling events at local restaurants & retail establishments

· Quarterly Newsletter, profiling local businesses, non-profits & events.

· Revamping the annual Adams Morgan Day Festival with a “green” pavilion, and more music, arts, and kid’s events

· Greatly expanding Arts on Belmont

· Originating Jazz in Kalorama Park (with live jazz artists and WPFW)

· Hosting DC’s first-ever neighborhood-wide transportation charettes led by a national expert which generated many of the upcoming streetscape improvements such as wider sidewalks.(DDOT has now adopted this charrette model to use for other

· projects)

· Unique designs for Adams Morgan historic fire & police call boxes with original art by local artists. Now we need your help in raising funds for installation!

· Façade improvement, small exterior business fixes, for customer appeal

· Planned wall murals and alley art by local artists (need matching funds to implement)!

We were fortunate to have started with financial support from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the DC government. However, this funding decreases over time, and we must raise funds for matching and to do planned projects.  Improvement creates value but happens slowly.

This new year, please consider making a difference right here in Adams Morgan.  A tax-deductible donation will allow us to start many projects listed above and complete many unfunded projects as well. To keep our local economy prosperous, preserve unique local character, we encourage you to help us support small local businesses through increased promotions and events that keep dollars here locally. We are able to offer events that appeal to all age groups – wine tastings, business samplings, spring outdoor events and concerts, Adams Morgan Day, Bravo’s Top Chef, BowWow PowWow and more.

Diverse mural projects exist and represent Adams Morgan. To complement and enhance this trend, the Adams Morgan Main Street Group has commissioned mosaic mural art by renowned local muralist Byron Peck and his student and youth trainees. Supporting this project will create a quality, visible artwork for the corridor for years to come. Themes embracing the arts and preserving the neighborhood’s multicultural history and social networking bring everyone together.

We want to thank you in advance for considering a contribution to this local cause and enriching our entire community. Please make your checks payable to Adams Morgan Main Street Group. Your giving back distinguishes Adams Morgan for what it is, a distinctive, one-of-a-kind impacting community. If you want to see where your donation goes, or volunteer with us, come knock on our door, meet your neighbor, meet one of your local business owners, and see how donations and volunteer time is leveraged to benefit and help Adams Morgan.

Best regards,
